Philippine festivities are highly religious oriented, full of
flair, flamboyantly colorful and makes you just want to join in all the fun
even if it means walking for hours, sweating under our tropical climate and
being squeezed by other spectators.
After all the revelry, you remember one thing - you're immensely famished! When our tummies grumble, there is no other way to escape its deafening call but give in.
Bulalo all-you-can at Royal Concourse
Royal Concourse may just be your refuge if you are at the Queen City of the South - Cebu City while joining the world-class Sinulog Festival. Royal Concourse tags itself as the Ultimate Crispy Pata Buffet. You can enjoy a variety of dishes from dimsum (siomai), egg noodles (pancit), seafood choices of clams and mussels and hot-piping Bulalo.
Salad choices at Royal Concourse
A salad bar can also be had at the right most area of the long buffet table. A word of caution though, if you're after a filling meal, go ahead and enjoy. But if you're looking for great-tasting buffet dishes, better head to other buffet restaurants or hotel buffets if you prefer to indulge.
When you're craving for Crispy Pata and would like to try Royal Concourse, trick when eating here is be on the lookout when their chopping and serving a new batch of their crispy pata - the meat is a bit more tender and the skin is somehow crispier.
Until next time, hope you continue to join me as I share with you my dear fellow food lovers more deliriously delicious dining discoveries here at Eat To Your Heart's Content As I always say, Live Well, Laugh Often, Eat To Your Heart's Content!

With the metropolis' hurried life, there are times when you just need to grab a meal and devour while on the go. A good example is the versatile burger. Versatile since we can always eat this anywhere we go - while riding in vehicles (preferably as passengers), while watching a movie or even while working on our desks with mountains of paperworks. This way, our meal has only become filling but not enjoyable.
Army Navy Burger + Burrito's Bully Boy Burger
Dining at Army Navy Burger + Burrito defies "just" being a filling meal, it's a definite satisfying meal and more. Offering three sizes of burger to choose from, Burger (Php135) is their classic single burger with about a quarter of a pound of pure beef patty. Their Double Burger is double the goodness with two quarter-pounder of beef patties. While their Bully Boy Burger (Php235) offers burger aficionados with three-quarter-pounder natural beef patties. I was beefed up while ordering this gigantic burger treat and was even more mouthwatering as I took photos before taking my first bite. It was triple the enjoyment with three layers of pure juicy beef patties topped with fresh crisp ice-berg lettuce, slices of onions and tomato with mayonnaise and ketchup on a toasted sesame seed keiser bun. Additional toppings can be had like cheese or bacon at Php25 and Jalapeno or sauteed onions at Php15.
Army Navy Burger + Burrito's Onion Rings
What goes perfect with this deliriously delicious triple burger pleasure are three options, Freedom Fries, Onion Rings, Tortilla Chips with Cheese Dip. At Php60, their Freedom Fries is well-seasoned in a zesty thin-cut fries. Onion Rings also at Php60 are batter-coated that has been fried to a perfect crunch.
Army Navy Burger + Burrito's Tortilla Chips with Cheese Dip
I fancy their Tortilla Chips with Cheese Dip (Php60). Though it's as simple as the name suggests, the cheese dip had character - creamy but tangy. It was a definite palete pleaser and a better alternative to the usual burger and fries combo.

The LOOP at ABSCBN has evolved on becoming a foodie haven offering quick fix like Potato Corner, give in to your pizza craving with the newly opened Shakey's and healthy options via Gourmet Refreshers. Regular readers of this site would know that a delicious dessert would always complete my meal. Just a few months back, The LOOP opened one of my favorite bakeshops over the years - ARISTOCRAT BAKESHOP.
Aristocrat Bakeshop (a subsidiary of one of the landmarks in Filipino cuisine - Aristocrat Restaurant) offers a wide variety of desserts to choose from, ranging from Chocolate based pastries, cakes like brazo de mercedes and their soft ensaymada.

Frequent readers of this site already know that I am a certified chocoholic so I will be sharing with you some of the chocolate concoctions Aristocrat Bakeshop offers. Starting with a square dessert, walled with four thin milk chocolate squares, the airy chocolate cake was smothered with light mocha frosting and topped with maraschino cherry. I often buy this sweet ending though I constantly forget its name.

Chocolate Mallows at Aristocrat Bakeshop
Another is simply called Chocolate Mallows. This round dessert has two layers of marshmallows coated in semi-sweet chocolate. The size was tricky to eat, so don't hesitate to use a fork to taste this airy and slightly gooey sweet concoction.

Torta delos Reyes, a best-seller at Aristocrat Bakeshop
Aristocrat Bakeshop's best-seller and a signature dessert is their Torta delos Reyes, their single-serve is a square ensemble. The cake seems to be two layers in height that was entirely coated in chocolate & butter frosting that has been cooled and embellished with white chocolate designs on top. What awaits every chocoholic in this seemingly simple chocolate cake is an intricate layer of crisp wafers creating their ultimate Sans Rival. I make sure I took the entire length in one bite to capture its essence, from the chocolate-butter icing to the very core of the sans rival. It was a definite Torte of the kings (delos reyes translates into "of the kings") as the name suggests. And at Php160 for this single cake, it may not be a regular dessert for the regular Juan, but if you have to treat yourself after a rough day at work, by all means, indulge.

Hukad sa Golden Cowrie at Ayala Terraces in Cebu City
Since I started traveling to Cebu City, I have heard about Golden Cowrie's popularity among foodies and I've always wanted to sample their dishes. Although I only got to taste it for the first time in 2009, it was worth the wait.
Golden Cowrie's original establishment is located at Mactan Island but they also established one at the second level of Ayala Terraces which is called Hukad sa Golden Cowrie. Golden Cowrie Native Restaurant first opened its doors in 1982 but is now being managed by the Koksengs who retained the diners' well-loved dishes, as well as their loyal and efficient staff.

Crispy Pata served at Hukad sa Golden Cowrie
Hukad sa Golden Cowrie offers one of Cebu City's best tasting Crispy Pata, a slab of pata (pork leg) that has been seasoned well. The pork lard was fried to a perfect crisp yet retaining its tender meat hindering you from going ballistic as you munch every bite.

Dinuguan with Puto served at Hukad sa Golden Cowrie
For merienda (afternoon snacks), savor the comforting taste of Dinuguan with Puto, the thick dinuguan sauce is packed with pieces of pork cubes two pieces of puto (rice cakes) steamed in fresh banana leaves. Their Puto is akin to Laguna's best tasting puto that I have come to love over the years. Soft rice buns are the best accompaniment when eating dinuguan during snacks but white rice may also be paired when having this delicious exotic dish for lunch or dinner.
