KUYA ED’S : DAVAO CITY'S AFFORDABLE BUFFET SCENE

Whenever I go to Davao City to attend events or shoots, I never have the luxury of going around the city and enjoy their dining destinations. So with my recent visit to Asia’s most livable city, my mission was to unearth most, if not all, of their delectable spreads. 


I was literally gasping for breath when I saw several restaurants offering eat-all-you-can for as low as Php79. Other buffets offer Php99 and Php149.


With the preference of my beau, we opted to try Kuya Ed’s Buffet located at the Rizal Promenade in downtown Davao City. This Php99-buffet is open during lunch from 11am to 2pm and dinner starting at 5pm to 9pm.

The menu is by rotation, having five to six kinds of appetizers, 10 main dishes and about five kinds of desserts including fruit platters. Regulars on the buffet table are Kuhol sa Gata, Steamed Crabs, Tahong and Laing which Kuya Ed learned during his stay in Bicol and cooked his way to perfection.

Another one of his specialty is the Pork Humba. Though this creation was truly enjoyable, I focused on the steamed crabs which I have been craving for sometime now. I was eating 1, 2, 3 and counting of steamed crabs and it was mouth-watering even at first sight. Enjoying freshly caught seafood is one of the perks when dining in Davao City. And I was loving every minute with the steamed crabs at Kuya Ed’s Buffet. Satiate yourself with every serving of Kuya Ed’s delectable spread with bottomless iced tea at Php35. You will definitely end with a big burp! 


From humble beginnings where Kuya Ed started as a waiter in Manila, he worked at various establishments such as Barrio Fiesta, Mario’s Steakhouse and Via Mare. He later studied HRM and went to Davao and South Cotabato, both in the Mindanao region. In 1995, the first “Kuya Ed” buffet in Davao was established and was followed by more buffet-themed restaurants such as Iron Horse Buffet and Bangka Buffet.

    thank you for your inquiry. my apologies for the late reply, was under the weather.
    when I dined at Kuya Ed's I didnt make any reservations. i just went there pretty early, just a little past 5pm. they open from 11am to 2pm and 5pm to 9pm. Enjoy!

    The worst restaurant ever. i booked in kuya eds but i am not satisfied. not delicious, not enough foods displayed for the guest. too crowded to accommodate the vip guest. not enough ice tea served. basta worst experience....

      Hello Kimberly! It's unfortunate that you had an unpleasant experience at Kuya Ed's. As you can see from my photos, when I visited the restaurant, they had overflowing of dishes in their chafing dish. And delicious too! That time, I paid extra for the bottomless iced tea I ordered, apart from the buffet spread which was satisfying! Thank you for sharing your experience and for dropping by my food blog :)
