Blueberry flovored yogurt at The White Hat
During the last few years of the past decade, the metropolis was invaded by a craze – what is known as Fro-Yo which practically everyone knows as frozen yogurt. The White Hat was one of the many choices.
This locally family-owned yogurt store was first conceptualized in 2007 and was launched in July 2008 with their first branch at SM Mall of Asia (MOA). In a chat with one of the owners, Eric Chao who is also the Marketing Manager, their family decided to tap the Italian yogurt suppliers for the quality of how the yogurt is produced – using fresh milk instead of the instant milk available in the supermarkets and the adherence to the strictest requirements of the National Yogurt Association.
To be able to use fresh milk in their production, The White Hat uses Laguna cows as their supplier while the other ingredients are directly imported from Italy. One flavor that is sourced from Italy is Blueberry which they introduced last February 2010. My friend Michelle claims that the blueberry yogurt was “swabe,” that neither each was overpowering the other, it was an ideal blend.
The versatile yogurt, topped with fresh mangoes
Yogurt is very flexible, you can top with numerous edibles such as fruits from kiwi, banana, pineapple, grapes, cherries and peaches. For me, I would prefer mangoes on top of my yogurt, although Eric recommends fresh ripe strawberries goes perfectly with their yogurt.
Yogurt made a little sinful with all kinds of chocolate toppings
But for a chocoholic like myself, nothing beats a gamut of nothing but chocolates from choco chips, sprinkles, drops, pops and chocolate balls. Chocolates neutralize the sour taste that is inherent in yogurt.
Aside from the health benefits of eating yogurt, one thing that sets The White Hat apart from the rest is its willingness and generosity for charitable causes. I got to visit their EDSA Shangri-La Mall last February and witnessed their 8th event since 2008. “Celeb for Charity” where celebrities are invited to help out in the store for a few hours and serve yogurt orders to clients. This timed event gives a part of the proceeds to the celebrity’s choice of charity. For this particular event, the Ateneo basketball players were tapped and the Ahon Foundation was targeted as beneficiary.
The White Hat continues to grow. From their first store in SM MOA, in just barely two years they have more than a dozen. I spotted a new branch at the 2nd floor of Glorietta in Makati by the end of 2010.
I first featured The White Hat in the Islands Cuisine Section of the Republic of 7107 Islands Travel Magazine Issue 3 Volume 2 entitled Chill Out Under the Summer Sun. http://www.7107magazine.ph/
