EAT TO YOUR HEART'S CONTENT : MORNINGS AT TAGAYTAY CITY's BAG OF BEANS

Whether it's just a regular weekend or a long one, the proximity of Tagaytay City to Metro Manila makes it a convenient weekend sojourn for anyone wanting to unwind. Amidst the cool crisp air, my friends and I started our weekend getaway with a hearty breakfast to pump us for a long day of adventure. There are numerous dining places in Tagaytay City but only few deliver sumptuous breakfast meals without breaking your wallets. And when craving for delicious English pies, there is only one place to head to - Bag of Beans, the home of English pies and breads when in this bucolic ridge.

Bag of Beans has evolved through the years. You would be surprised that their seemingly small bakeshop along Aguinaldo Highway has so much more to offer. To the left (if you're facing their bakeshop), you have to walk down the stairs. Lo and behold, what welcomes you, aside from their house bird, are several spots where you can enjoy your meals with your buddies.

Two indoor areas at Bag of Beans

Al fresco, the garden is all yours, you can also opt for their Pavillion with about six tables and a collection of souvenir pieces from Asian travels. Another room is like a large living room with long heavy wooden tables and chairs with white throw pillows. This room is made lovelier with fresh flower blooms displayed in various areas. Though indoors, you will still enjoy the cool breeze outside with their giant inclined screened windows surrounding you. Though I feel homey at this third area, we dined al fresco to commune with nature.

Bag of Bean's Omelette

What's good with Bag of Beans is that they have an all-day-breakfast menu so you can enjoy their numerous hearty breakfast at your whim. I sampled their Omelette (Php275) made with three eggs, mushroom, tomatoes, onions and cheese. The omellete is served with your choice of sausage or bacon plus bread and butter on the side.

Cinnamon & Raisin Bread

Bag of Beans is known for two things, their Cinnamon & Raisin Bread and their English Pies so to taste was a must. The Cinnamon & Raisin Bread (Php80) was addicting - aromatic and beautifully laid on our table. Each slice was filled with raisins and you know it was freshly made since it was soft and not airy.

Bag of Bean's Sheperd's Pie

Your decision-making skills will have to be tested when choosing from their pies, they offer Beef & Veggie, Steak & Kidney, Chicken & Vegetable, Vegetable Pie, Apple Pie, Mixed Fruit Pie, Pineapple Pie and my all-time-favorite, Chicken Empanada. Their best-seller would have to be Shepherd's Pie which comes in two sizes, single (Php105) and family - 9 inches wide (Php420).
